Introducing the New ADI Platform: Giving Engineering AI a Sat Nav Instead of a Paper Map

For decades, engineering teams have been surrounded by information. The challenge has never been a lack of data. The challenge has been finding the right information at the right time and understanding how it all connects together.

We are excited to announce the next evolution of Cad-Capture Asset Data Intelligence (ADI), designed to transform traditional engineering repositories into an AI-enabled engineering knowledge platform by combining the power of asset intelligence, OpenText ECM, OpenText xECM Business Workspaces, and enterprise systems such as SAP.

Engineering Information: The World's Most Expensive Treasure Hunt

Most engineering organizations have spent years creating invaluable engineering knowledge including P&IDs, PFDs, datasheets, vendor manuals, operating procedures, maintenance records and engineering drawings. The problem is that this information often lives in different places owned by different systems and different teams.

From Paper Maps to Satellite Navigation

A useful analogy is the difference between a traditional road map and modern satellite navigation.

A paper map shows roads and destinations, but it leaves all the hard work to you. You must work out the best route, avoid traffic, estimate your arrival time and even figure out where to park.

A sat nav understands the journey. It knows where you are, where you are going and continuously updates the route as conditions change.

That is exactly what ADI brings to engineering information. Traditional document repositories are the engineering equivalent of a paper map. ADI turns them into a live navigation system for engineering knowledge.

Building a Living Engineering Knowledge Platform

At the heart of the new platform is the combination of ADI and OpenText xECM Business Workspaces.

Enterprise systems such as SAP manage structured information including asset records, work orders, maintenance history and bills of material. Meanwhile, most engineering knowledge exists in unstructured content such as drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, procedures, vendor manuals and technical reports.

ADI acts as the bridge. It identifies, validates and continuously maintains the relationships between these sources, bringing everything together within an asset-centric workspace.

Your Documents Start Understanding What They Mean

One of the most powerful capabilities of the new platform is automated relationship management.

When a pump, valve or instrument tag appears within an engineering drawing, ADI can identify that reference and automatically associate the document with the correct OpenText xECM Business Workspace.

Relevant P&IDs, PFDs, loop diagrams, datasheets and vendor documentation can automatically appear as business attachments within the workspace.

As drawings are revised and assets are added or removed, ADI continuously updates those relationships. The result is a living engineering digital thread rather than a collection of disconnected files.

Turning Drawings into Interactive Knowledge Hubs

ADI HotSpots transform engineering drawings into interactive gateways.

By clicking an equipment tag on a drawing, users can immediately navigate to SAP records, maintenance information, related drawings, vendor documents, procedures and business workspaces.

Imagine selecting a destination on your sat nav and instantly seeing the best route, traffic conditions, travel time, fuel stops and parking options. ADI delivers the engineering equivalent.

Why This Matters for AI

AI is only as good as the context it receives. ADI creates a validated network of relationships between assets, documents, enterprise systems and plant hierarchies.

This allows AI agents to reason across information sources, understand context and deliver more accurate and trustworthy responses.

The Future of Engineering Knowledge

By combining asset intelligence, automated document relationships, dynamic HotSpots, OpenText xECM Business Workspaces, structured SAP data and Agentic AI capabilities, ADI transforms isolated repositories into a continuously maintained engineering knowledge platform.

The map is still there. But now you have the sat nav, live traffic updates, route optimisation and even directions to the nearest parking space.

Welcome to the next generation of engineering knowledge. Welcome to ADI.
